Current Exemptions page two: The bill also creates the following two new exemptions from the licensing requirement: 1. A person who manipulates only the soft tissue of the hands, feet, and ears. Persons who fall under this exemption may not represent or imply that their services are massage therapy or bodywork therapy. 2. A person whose practice involves the use of touch or touch and movement to assist and bring body awareness to his or her clients and who is recognized by a professional organization or credentialing association after that person has demonstrated an adequate level of training and competency.

SUGGESTED EXEMPTIONS FOR THE MASSAGE BILL: (e) THE PERSON PROVIDES ALTERNATIVE METHODS THAT EMPLOY CONTACT AND DOES NOT HOLD HIMSELF OR HERSELF OUT AS A MASSAGE THERAPIST. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS PARAGRAPH (e), "ALTERNATIVE METHODS THAT EMPLOY CONTACT" INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: (I) PRACTICES IN WHICH ONLY THE SOFT TISSUE OF A PERSON'S HANDS, FEET, OR EARS ARE MANIPULATED; (II) PRACTICES USING TOUCH, WORDS, AND DIRECTED MOVEMENTS TO DEEPEN A PERSON'S AWARENESS OF MOVEMENT PATTERNS IN HIS OR HER BODY, SUCH AS THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD, THE TRAGER APPROACH, AND BODY-MIND CENTERING;

(III) PRACTICES USING TOUCH TO AFFECT THE HUMAN ENERGY SYSTEMS, SUCH AS REIKI, SHIATSU, AND ASIAN OR POLARITY BODYWORK THERAPY; (IV) STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION PRACTICES SUCH AS ROLFING AND HELLERWORK; AND (V) THE PROCESS OF MUSCLE ACTIVATION TECHNIQUES.

Restrictive Dietary Licensing Legislation

Say bye bye to nutrient dense dietary advice and hello to the ADA (American Dietetic Association) processed foods protocols. This bill creates a nutrition and dietary monopoly for Registered Dietitians. They already have a monopoly in hospitals, schools and nursing homes.              Click here to see requirements for licensure and exemptions.

 Wisconsin is struggling with a $6.5 billion deficit. The last thing Wisconsin needs is to incur costs  prosecuting “food lawbreakers” and shutting down businesses.

            A Senate hearing on SB115 http://www.legis.state.wi.us/2009/data/SB-115.pdf could be any day with a 24 hour notice.  For the last hearing in February 2008 we were given a 3 day notice. The WDA is cranking up the pressure so a 24 hour notice could be a reality.  We are sending out a notification to let everyone know they may have to drive to Madison on short notice for the hearing.
            The greatest impact on lawmakers:
* Your clients and customers testifying that low cost, safe alternative dietary methods work and improved their quality of life after years of chronic illness.
* Testifying that registered dietitian nutritional advice produced no results and alternative nutrition advice worked, chronic illness treated by drugs were elevated by alternative dietary changes, etc. This a consumer health right to choose issue.

Dietitian bill will destroy practices

SUAMICO — I am urging everyone who cares about nutrition and good health to oppose the Wisconsin Dietitians Licensing Bill.

With certain exceptions, the bill "prohibits a person who is not a licensed dietitian from practicing dietetics or nutrition care services."

This bill will destroy the practice of hundreds of certified nutritionists, naturopathic doctors, and the many others who offer nutritional services. Health food stores as well would be prohibited from giving specific nutritional advice.

This bill says that only licensed dietitians are uniquely qualified to give nutritional advice. There are thousands of Wisconsin citizens using alternative nutritional services who are benefiting from nutritional advice that helps them live healthier.

The movement toward more wholesome foods, the benefits of organics, the use of supplements and herbs to improve health does not come from certified dietitians. It comes from the thousands of consumers and the hundreds of practitioners of natural and alternative health and nutrition.

One only has to look at hospital food and school lunches to appreciate what dietitians consider nutritious. We oppose the concept that dietitians should be the only state-sanctioned authority for all nutritional services. Visit your local health food store for more information.

Sen Plale has signed on to co-sponsor the bill. He is from S. Milwaukee. We need constituents from Plale's district to call and tell him:

• This bill is not fixed and is not better than last year's bill.

• Includes exclusionary language preventing alternative nutrition providers.

Bill: "3) a retailer that furnishes oral or written general nutrition information about food and other goods; "

Leg Council "These exemptions are intended to make this legislation less exclusive, they don’t provide immunity to retailers or other unlicensed nutritionists, unless they are only providing “general information.”  However, there is no definition of “general information” in the bill so there is some ambiguity there as well." )

Bill: "current law prohibits a person who is not certified by the board from designating himself or herself as a dietitian, claiming to provide dietetic services, or using any title or initial that would represent that person as certified or licensed as a dietitian or in a nutrition−related field."

• Reintroduction of the WDA  (Wisconsin Dietetic Association) Licensing Bill(SB 394 & AB 742) that was defeated last session and will bere-introduced in the 2009 to 2010 session. The WDA bill would allowonly licensed Dietitians trained by the ADA (American DieteticAssociation) and a few other licensed professions to discuss nutrition.Dietitians want licensure so they can receive Medicare payments, margarine and aspartameare OK with Dietitians, no nutritional difference between organic andconveniently produced food. The WDA/ADA is responsible for sodamachines in schools as Coke and Pepsi are two of their sponsors.

• Special Interests Groups Lobbying to Deny Citizen's Constitution Rights on Natural Health Care and Nutrition

  In the waning hours of the 2008 Wisconsinlegislative session, WDA lobbyists whispered in lawmakersears: "This bill will protect the public." Many lawmakers did not read the billand blindly sponsored this legislation.  Wisconsin Lawmakers use the "rule of 300." For every constituent call they receive equals 300 constituents that share the same opinion. Citizens jammed the phone lines with NO calls for the WDA Licensure Bill. The bill never made it to the floor for a vote thanks to citizens response.
